Overview

At Cook Children’s Hospital, I was responsible for helping the team catch up on deliverables to ensure the MVP met its launch date and designing new wireframes and UI for the in-bed patient experience. One major challenge was joining the project midway, dealing with preexisting conflicts, and managing delays caused by changes to wireframes after client approval.

For the New York Philharmonic, I worked on reskinning web content, redesigning user journeys, and wireframing new components. The outdated platform and shifting project scope, combined with stakeholder pushback and communication issues, led to delays and difficulties in meeting deadlines.

New Product and Discovery Session

At Cook Children’s Hospital, I conceptualized features and journeys for a new in-bed patient experience app to improve navigation and medical record access. Joining midway, I identified inconsistent design styles in existing wireframes and created patient-centered features to address these issues. I presented updated wireframes and UI concepts, which were kept in the concept phase for future development.

For the New York Philharmonic, I led a discovery session to align client goals with design outcomes. Despite initial hesitations about presenting new concepts due to the project’s focus on reskinning, collaboration with the UI team enabled us to meet the client’s needs effectively.

Wires and Navigation Exploration

At Cook Children’s Hospital, I focused on addressing behind-schedule wireframes, with the client expressing concerns over delays. Urgently, I worked on refining the home screen wireframes, particularly focusing on button names and carousel card wording to meet client needs.

For the New York Philharmonic, I reorganized the website’s navigation to better present its extensive content. The refresh concentrated on enhancing the header and footer to create a more purposeful and streamlined user experience.

Exploration of Designing the UIs for Cooks and NYP for Handoff

At Cook Children’s Hospital, internal design conflicts arose around home screen button hierarchy and naming. The client rejected any changes to button names, leaving reorganization as the only option, which created challenges with grouping and layout.

For the New York Philharmonic, the original header was outdated but functional, so challenging its design faced stakeholder pushback. We introduced a modern concept, emphasizing improved navigation and user familiarity, which was ultimately well-received.

Challenges

Centene, being state-regulated, requires that accessibility remains a priority focus for all products, both B2C and B2B. This is best accomplished through the intricacies of a well-established Design System, where detailed documentation is essential for successful usage.

Cooks Children Hospital

At Cook Children’s Hospital, catching up on a project that was dangerously behind schedule proved to be a challenging but invigorating experience. Learning the project’s history and quickly aligning with the team was both demanding and rewarding. This experience sharpened my approach to joining new teams and resolving obstacles swiftly, ultimately allowing for approvals and handoff to the UI and development teams.

New York Philharmonic

For the New York Philharmonic, I learned the importance of being intentional about understanding team dynamics and communication methods. Moving forward, I will focus on being a more proactive leader with stakeholders to ensure clear and timely approvals. Additionally, I will plan for potential obstacles to avoid disruptions to deliverables and timelines.
